Žďár Hills Reunion & Genealogy Workshop

Program Announcement

We’re holding a Reunion & Genealogy  Workshop in the Žďár Hills of the Czech Republic. The reunion/workshop is planned for September 23-30, 2012. The event will be held at Hotel Devět Skal in Milovy and will be limited to approximately 24 participants.

The villages of interest for this reunion include: Fryšava, Sněžné, Kuklík, Tří Studně, Sklené, Vlachovice, Kadov, Maršovice, Odranec, Vříšť, Křižánky, Daňkovice. Other villages in the immediate vicinity will be added to the program as requested.

Planned activities include:

●  Visit ancestral villages, homes, churches, cemeteries, schools

●  Lectures on the history, art, architecture, archeology, geology, and genealogy of the region.

●  Workshops on how to access and read Czech archival records.

●  Visit nearby cultural sites including the open-air museum at Veselý Kopec, the Pilgrimage Church of St. John of Nepomuk in Žďár nad sazavou, and  Pernštejn Castle.

●  Shopping excursions to nearby towns.

We’ll search for and contact living relatives of participants well before the conference begins. Local relatives will be invited to attend and participate in all of the scheduled activities. We'll encourage the local relatives to collect old photos and documents to share with their visiting relatives. A computer will be available during the conference so that participants can scan old photos and documents and transfer digital photos and documents to CD, DVD, and/or USB drives.

Option to add a guided tour of Prague and/or the wine region of Moravia to the basic itinerary.

Our two Czech tour guides are professional genealogists in the Czech Republic and will have blocks of time available during the conference to help you trace your families back in time.

$1290 per-person based on double occupancy. Single supplement is $300 extra. Price includes: accommodations with private bath, all meals, transportation via motor coach, admission to attractions, guides/translators, lectures, and entertainment. Price does not include airfare to the Czech Republic.

Notes: This will be an active tour and participants will have to be able to walk moderate distances in hilly terrain and climb stairs. Smoking is more prevalent in the Czech Republic and non-smoking facilities can't be guaranteed.
